NAME: Cierra Boyd
BIRTHPLACE: Cleveland, OH
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as flamboyant and free spirited. I feel like I wear what I want, and my style has an attitude about itself that reflects my personality.
Q: What inspired you to create a clothing line and how did you get started?
A: I have always had an entrepreneurial mind set. When I graduated, I wanted something that was personal to me and spoke loudly about the fashion movement that I’m trying to create. FriskMeGood has always been my online alias, so I thought people already know me by FriskMeGood why not name my clothing line that.
Q: What is the persona of your clothing line?
A: My clothing line represents a persona of someone with an eccentric style. Those who wear FriskMeGood have a free spirited way of dressing and own their personal style with poise. They aren’t afraid to be bold and wear what they want when they want.
Q: What method do you use to create your pieces? Is it difficult?
A: I use a sewing machine. Learning how to do certain things on your own with no one to show you is challenging at times, but it’s rewarding when you finally get it right. Sometimes tutorials can be very helpful.
Q: How do you come up with your designs?
A: I have a very vivid imagination, so I see inspiration in so many things. I pull inspo from other fashion, architecture, art, and I basically translate the world around me through my designs.
Q: Who is your biggest style inspiration?
A: This is so cliche but Rihanna! I love her style, and I really want her to wear FriskMeGood one day.
Q: How do you feel you have grown as a designer?
A: I’ve grown exponentially since I first began. I’ve learned how to use patterns and create my own with practice. I’ve only really been taking design seriously for about a year. This is the beginning, so I see tons of growth in the future.
Q: Do you have any other favorite designers?
A: My favorite designers at the moment are Laquan Smith and Merced Jackson, both amazing black designers.
Q: What are some goals for your brand?
A: I want Rihanna to wear FriskMeGood one day. I want my line to create wealth for my family in future generation. Lastly, I want FriskMeGood to bring a new and fresh perspective to the fashion world.
Q: Do you have any projects planned for the fall?
A: I’m currently working on my Kill Bill Collection for the fall. The theme is black and yellow like the infamous outfit from the movie. I will have pre-orders available very soon.
Q: What makes designing worthwhile for you?
A: I have always had an eye for fashion. I have things in my head that I want to create that are aesthetically refreshing. This may sound cliche, but fashion is my passion. Everytime I create something and wear it, it gives me pure bliss. Getting dressed is the one thing that makes my entire day worthwhile, and when I wear my designs I feel whole. Making the clothes I could only dream of having before is now a reality for me since I’ve been designing. I truly love creating.
Q: Have you done any fashion shows or events?
A: I am planning on doing a pop up shop and a fashion show Fall/Winter 18. Just wait on it!
Q: If you could send a message to the future you, what would you say?
A: I would say never lose touch of the vision you have for friskmegood.
Q: What is the most important thing you want the world to recognize about your brand?
A: I just want the world to see my aesthetic style and enjoy the beauty of the art I’m creating.
Q: What is your soundtrack for this summer?
A: I love Rockets by Lion Babe.
Q: Favorite summer trend?
A: I would have to say chaps!
