ORIGIN: AKRON, OH
SINGER & SONGWRITER
Q: When did you start making music?
In 2011, I moved in with my musician friends. We had a studio in the attic where One night, I started singing on a beat and all my friends told me immediately to get on a track. Ever since then, I have been making music with my friend who is a guitarist.
Q: What genre of music do you make?
We make a variety of music. We started off more Acoustic, Pop, and R&B. I had a band called Jovan Wilder and the Wild Things a few years back that had a Blues, Soul, and Rock vibe. Now, I’m crossing over into Hip-Hop and R&B. I like working with other musicians that are as versatile as I am. I want to make a country album one day. Why not?
Q: Why do you make music?
I don’t want to sound cliche, but I really believe this is what I was put on the Earth to do. My mom was a singer and musician back in the day, so growing up she inspired me to hone in on my own talent. I wanted to grab the torch and pick up where she left off, keeping the Wilder family music thing going.
Q: If you could describe your sound in 3 words, what would it be?
Unique, Organic, Creative.
Q: What inspires you the most?
My mother, of course, inspires my drive. I would also say Beyonce inspires me as an artist. I have always thought she was a great performer and singer. She has so much control over her voice. I also look up to artists like Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway, because my mom put me on to a lot of soulful music when I was young.
Q: What is your favorite song of all time?
Mezmorized by Wiz Khalifa. That song is like a crazy soundtrack to my life. Listening to that song takes me back in a time machine to some good times.
Q: Where have you performed?
I have performed in Las Vegas, Houston, Michigan, on a tour of the Midwest with Big Heff, and at different festivals. I also performed at the David Ford Eyewear release party.
Q: What goes into your creative process?
Usually, my guitar player or somebody will give me a beat, and I just feed off of the vibe of the music. I let the music paint a picture for me to add my melody and write words to. I create based off of the instrumentation of the music. The lyrics come second, I just want to cater to the music.
Q: What are some of your goals?
I want to put myself in the situation to take my career to the next level. I never want to settle, I want to always keep seeing growth. I take my music career seriously. I’m just staying humble, consistent, and patient.
Q: What are your greatest accomplishments?
I did a project with a music group previously known as No Limit, a song called Slow Down. It was featured on Dancing with the Stars in 2014.
Q: Do you have any projects coming up?
I’m working on my mixtape titled “OSJ.” I am also working on a music video for my single “Blue Dream” from “OSJ.”
Q: Have you had any dope collaborations?
I have a lot of tracks on my mixtape with 2Jayz and New Jeff City. They are like my brothers, and it is a blessing to work with people that I grew up with. Shoutout to #BeentheNig. It keeps me level headed to have people in my corner that will always have my back.
