Q:Why is creating art important to you?
A: Creating art is important, because we all need to express ourselves in our own way. Creating art is my way.
Q: What inspires your art?
A: Life and experience. Most, if not all of my ideas come from that. Music, movies and other artists inspire me, as well.
Q: What are your favorite things to depict in your artwork?
A: My favorite works typically involve the human figure in portrait form with some type of concept.
Q: Who or what has had the most influence on your artistry?
A: Friends and members of our art community influence my artistry, because they create really fire art that I like. I feel like it raises the bar and makes me want to contribute.
Q: Have you ever explored any other art forms?
A: Not yet! I’m finishing up some paintings for my very first solo exhibit. After I’m finished I want to start experimenting with different mediums.
Q: Do you have a favorite project you have completed?
A: Anytime I finish a painting of a family member or close friend, it instantly becomes my favorite. My goal is to paint each member of my family, at least the ones who are interested.
Q: How do you want people to interpret your work?
A: At this point, if they interpret anything it’s a win.
Q: What 3 songs complete your best summer playlist ever?
A: Great question! “Summertime” by Will Smith, “Summer” by The Carters, and “Summer’s Over” by Majin Jordan. This could change but Will is solidified.
Q: What are some of your future goals and aspirations?
A: I want my art to hang in a few black owned galleries/museums/institutions. Bey & Jay are two of my favorite artists ever who just so happen to appreciate art. I own & have appreciated their art for years. It’d be cool if one day, they own a piece or two of my art. I want to be a full time artist.
Q: Was there ever a point in time that you were discouraged about being an artist? How did you overcome this?
A: Some days, I get discouraged because I want to do art full time, but I can’t. I overcome it by counting my blessings & continuing to work towards it.
Q: In what ways has art impacted your life?
A: It’s had a major impact on my life. It’s something I really enjoy doing, I love it. It changes my mood.
Q: Do you have any favorite artists?
A: Kehinde Wiley, Kerry James Marshall, Amy Sherald, Barkley Hendricks
