AKA Tatjana Yasmin

AGE: 23

BIRTHPLACE: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Q: When did you know you were creative?

A: I have always known I am creative. My mother is an artist, so she always encourages me to explore that realm of myself. I feel the most at peace when I am creating or solving a problem using my imagination.

Q: What does being an artist mean to you?

A: Being an artist to me is just seeing the world in a different way. Using every situation to explore something new that goes beyond creating physical art. It can be exploring thoughts, places and experiences.

Q: What inspires your artwork?

A: I never think too deeply into what I make or why I make it. I honestly just enjoy having fun with it. I love shapes and colors- and I find my art changes drastically based on my mood.

Q: How would you describe your style of art? Now describe it in 3 food flavors.

A: I would say Neon Street. And my flavors are probably Bubblegum ice cream, Orange Fanta, and Cotton Candy.

Q: Do you feel like it is harder or easier to express one’s creative self in 2019?

A: I feel it is a mix honestly. We are lucky in the sense we can get our art viewed by so many people on social media while also getting great opportunities through that. However, it also brings along a pressure for likes and positive reception ,and that can breed some self-doubt.

Q Which place in the universe do you feel reflects your artwork the most? (Can be any country, state, planet, literally anywhere.)

A: Willy Wonka’s Trap house.

Q: What is your favorite art medium to use and why?

A: I am the most comfortable with fine liners and Acrylic paint but I am experimenting with Spray Paint and I am really excited to explore that medium in a big way.

Q: Are there any repetitive themes and patterns in your work? If so, what are they and what do they mean?

A: Eyes, for sure. I think eyes are super interesting and I think they are an important gateway. Striping- I just find it adds a cool element. And snakes- snakes are my favorite animals and I find them striking.

Q: Do you have any favorite artists? Who are they and why?

A: 3 of my favorite artists are Squid Licker, Damien Thorne, and Jose Mendez. Squid Licker is just totally badass and amazing. She creates whole worlds in her paintings and the detail is outstanding. Damien Thorn is a Tattoo artist. He deals with geometric tattoos and a lot of full body pieces which are just jaw-dropping. Lastly is Jose Mendez; His color and pattern work are sickening.

Q: Do you have a favorite project you have completed?

A: Not really – I have a weird thing where I don’t get attached to pieces. A lot of the time i’ll give stuff away, sell it or draw over it.

Q: How do you want people to interpret your work?

A: I just want people to feel ANYTHING after looking at it.

Q: What 3 songs best describes your art?

A: “Tip Toeing In My Jawwwdinz” By Riff Raff

“A Weird Way to Express My Love” By DBangz

“GUCCI COOCHIE” By Die Antwoord

Q: What are some of your future goals and aspirations?

A: I want to create a brand/ artistic hub for myself and other artists to live free of a 9-5. I am working on a project right now which I am really excited to share once it’s all finished in production but I am branching out into fashion with it.

Q: Would you say that art has had an impact on you? How?

A: I feel like art has just made me a more open-minded person and has allowed me to have a unique perception of the world. Also has helped me feel comfortable alone.

Q: Tell us a something that you do not portray in your artwork that still means alot to you.

A: I would say probably say having moral character. It is super important to me to be a good, kind and helpful person and I like to surround myself with people with that outlook.
